　企鵝家族(PINGU)誕生於1986年，由瑞士動畫大師奧托馬固托曼(Mr.Otmar Gutmann)，發表的試驗性黏土動畫『從南極來的PINGU』，甫推出即獲第37屆柏林影展的肯定，其後連續獲得多項國際影展大獎，奠定企鵝家族系列影片，在幼教娛樂市場的地位。
　企鵝家族最大特色，在於利用肢體搭配獨一無二的『企鵝語言』溝通，巧妙的跨越國界。實際上嬰幼兒因為無法掌握語言，所以無論透過任何語言，都無法精確傳達意念，企鵝家族的特色就是能彌補此一缺憾，將溫馨的親情及友情傳遞給全球各種文化的寶寶，它之所以履受肯定，肇因於此。也帶動其它廠商競相推出類似手法的產品，例如英國國家廣播公司的『天線寶寶系列』即為一例。
　企鵝家族全套共 9片DVD(再加上一集特別版)，分為12個單元，每個單元有 8-9個小短篇，這個故事發生在遙遠的南極世界，爸爸、媽媽、爺爺、 PINGU、PINGA和小海豹之間所發生的溫馨故事，正是您寶寶的良伴。
