此部為小矮人系列動畫的首部曲，該動畫推出後大獲成功，之後推出了一系列的小矮人動畫，1987年推出了“聰明的小矮人/Wisdom of the Gnomes ”，這兩部都在九十年代被小神龍俱樂部引進中國。1995年推出 “小矮人的大冒險/The Great Adventure of the Gnomes”，1999年的“雪中小矮人/The Gnomes in the Snow”，2000年的“小矮人的非凡冒險/Fantastic Adventures of the Gnomes”。我2008年時在意大利電視1台還看到了該系列動畫的播出，受歡迎程度可見一斑。這一部還超越了1980年由同系列的書《The World of David the Gnome》改編的人氣電視電影“Gnomes ”。
