　《貓和老鼠》動畫片是制片人弗雷德·昆比、導演威廉·漢納及約瑟夫·巴伯拉於1939年創作的。繼第一個動畫短片《貓得到靴子》大獲成功後，25年中米高梅電影公司拍制了100多部《貓和老鼠》動畫片。這套動畫片完全以鬧劇為特色，情節十分熱鬧。 　　《貓和老鼠》（又譯《湯姆和傑利》Tom&Jerry）是當今舉世聞名的動畫片，它的創造者威廉·漢納（William Hanna）及約瑟夫·巴伯拉（Joseph Barbera）是美國好萊塢動畫界的“傳奇人物”。威廉·漢納出生於新墨西哥梅爾羅斯，七歲時隨父母遷居加利福尼亞，長大後，曾先後學習過工程學、新聞學和音樂。20世紀30年代美國經濟大蕭條時期，他在一家動畫工作室打零工，擔任故事編輯工作，雇主很快發現了他的才華，因而他不斷地得到提拔，直至成為獨立的動畫片導演。
